Chapter 01

From the mountainous regions of Malawi ― the story of Misuku Coffee Growers Cooperative

Located in the Misuku Hills of Malawi, Africa, Misuku Coffee Growers Cooperative is a cooperative of smallholder farmers.

The coffee beans are all specialty beans that have been hand-cultivated with care, in the highlands with altitudes of 1,200 - 2,000m, free of chemical fertilizers or pesticides.

The clean air, rich nature, and passion of the farmers in this region create the fruity flavor and deep richness that is unique to Malawian coffee.

Chapter 02

A commitment to Fair Trade and Quality

Our coffee import partner, ATAKA TRADING CO., LTD., works directly with the Mzuzu Coffee Planters Cooperative Union, to which the Misuku Coffee Growers Cooperative belongs.
By importing coffee at fair prices, we help protect farmers’ livelihoods while ensuring consistent, high-quality beans.

At Ataka Trading, every step of the process is carefully reviewed, from cultivation, harvesting, processing, to sorting of coffee beans. Only top-grade batches with minimal defects are selected.
Prior to import, samples are evaluated through ‘cupping’ to assess flavour, aroma, balance, and value.
With the goal of delivering coffee that people truly enjoy, quality is meticulously managed throughout selection, transportation, and storage.

Chapter 03

What Is Specialty Coffee?

At Ataka Trading, specialty coffee is defined by three key elements:

  • Green bean (raw coffee bean) quality: 60%
  • Precision of import and distribution management: 10%
  • Roasting and production quality: 30%

In other words, every step from farm to cup must meet the highest standards.
That is what truly qualifies coffee as “specialty.”

Above all, the most important measure is whether it is genuinely delicious — something you can truly enjoy from the heart.
だからこそ、「本当においしい」と心から感じられることが、最も大切な評価基準なのです。

Chapter 04

Roasting that brings out aroma and flavour

High-quality green beans from Malawi are roasted by Chimoto Coffee, a long-established specialty coffee roaster located in Tokyo.

oasting temperatures and times are carefully adjusted based on each bean’s characteristics and lot/batch condition, bringing out the ideal balance of acidity, sweetness, and body.
The coffee is packed immediately after roasting, ensuring that its fresh aroma and flavour are delivered directly to you.
