Chapter 01
From the Highlands of Southern Africa

Our tea leaves are grown in southern Malawi, Africa, within the rolling hills of the Shire Highlands in the Thyolo region.
Cool temperatures at elevations of approximately 900–1,250 metres, abundant rainfall, and fertile soil all create ideal conditions for tea cultivation.
Satemwa Estate was founded in 1923 by Scottish planter Maclean Kay and is now run by the third generation of his family, the Cathcart-Kay family.
Their dedication to cultivation techniques, tea processing, and uncompromising quality has been passed down through generations.
Chapter 02
A Special Cup, crafted by hand

At Satemwa, tea leaves are primarily hand-picked by skilled workers. Only the youngest, most tender leaves are selected, with strict attention paid to shape and quality.
This careful selection process is what affords the tea rich aroma and depth of flavour.
While deeply rooted in traditional methods passed through generations, the estate also embraces innovation, continually exploring new techniques and products. This balance allows Satemwa to honour its heritage while evolving with modern creativity.
Chapter 03
Improving the lives of people and wellbeing of communities

Satemwa holds Fairtrade certification, as well as Rainforest Alliance certification.
These certifications help ensure fair working conditions for employees while promoting environmentally responsible farming practices.
Specifically, Satemwa offers:
- Improved workplace sanitation and regular health check-ups to support workers’ wellbeing; and
- Educational support, including scholarships for employees’ children, expansion of primary school classrooms, construction of teachers’ housing, and adult education programmes.
Chapter 04
Two signature teas, two distinct flavours

The Satemwa teas we import come in two distinctive signature varieties.
Both reflect the richness of their natural environment, offering refined, layered flavours.
Black Tea
A well-balanced blend with a full body, gentle astringency, and a subtle sweetness.
A satisfying cup that brings comfort and energy to the start of your day.
Earl Grey
A luxurious blend of Satemwa tea leaves infused with natural bergamot.
Its bright, elegant aroma and smoothness make it perfect for when you want to refresh and reset.
